La/sat 9 – 18.00 Tietotaitoesittely esillä Salissa / Knowledge & skills presentation in the Main Hall
Kaikkien halukkaiden on mahdollista osallistua tietotaitoesittelyyn! Tälle kerralla se toteutuu tapahtumassa tehtävillä asioilla (esittellen uusia asioita!). Sydäntalvenjuhlalla on pitkät perinteet ja monet kävijöistä ovat ehtineet olla tapahtumassa jo monta kertaa siinä missä toiset ovat ensimmäisessä Sydäntalvenjuhlassaan. Vaikka Sydäntalvenjuhlassa on monia perinteitä ei tapahtuma kuitenkaan ole koskaan aivan samanlainen – aina voi löytyä uusia asioita, ystäviä, tietoja tai taitoja.
Tietotaito-esittelyssä esitellään lyhyesti (tekstillä, kuvalla, tehdyllä asialla tai muuten) jokin tapahtumassa uutena tullut asia, taito tai tieto. Esittelyn ei tarvitse olla pitkä, esimerkiksi vaikkapa uuden tanssin nimi, pätkä haarukkanyöriä, piirrosjousiammunnasta – tai mikä uusi asia onkaan – riittää hyvin. Paperissa on alhaalla tilaa muiden kannustaville kommenteille, jotka osallistuja saa mukaansa muistoksi.
Knowledge&skill presentation New things!
Everyone who wants to can participate in a knowledge&skill presentation. This time we will implement it with things to be done at the event (introducing new things!). The Midwinter Feast has a long tradition and many of the visitors have already been to the event many times, while others are at their first Midwinter Feast. Although Midwinter Feast has many traditions, the event is never quite the same – you can always find new things, friends, knowledge or skills.
In the Knowledge&skill presentation, something new in the event, skill or knowledge is briefly presented (with text, picture, done thing or otherwise). The introduction doesn’t have to be long, for example the name of a new dance, a piece of new made string, a drawing about archery – or whatever the new thing is – is enough. At the bottom of the paper, there is space for encouraging comments from others, which the participant can with as a memento.

La/sat 12 – 15 Kässäpaja ”Partletti” / Handcraft workshop “Parletti” [Meri]
Tehdään hartiavaate eli partlet tyylin ja tarpeen mukaan. Tarvitset ompelutarvikkeet ja kangasta: ohut pellava kesäksi, villa talveksi ja samettia pitoihin (jälkimmäisiin lisäksi vuoripellava). Noin 50×70 cm riittää yleensä. Kiinnitykseen tarvitaan nauhaa tai hakasia (myös neulakiinnitys mahdollinen).
Lets make a shoulder garment, i.e. partlet, according to the style and need. You need sewing supplies and fabric: thin linen for summer, wool for winter, and velvet for grips (in addition to lining for the latter). About 50×70 cm is usually enough. Tape or hooks are needed for fastening (needle fastening is also possible).

Salissa valokuvaaminen on monestakin syystä ongelmallista ja tunnelmaa rikkovaa, mutta tässä kohtaa tarjoamme mahdollisuuden halukkaille tunnelma- tai kaverikuvailuun – vältä siis tämähetki salia jos et halua kuviin.
Taking photos in the mainhall is problematic for many reasons and breaks the atmosphere, but at this point we offer the opportunity for those who wish to photograph the atmosphere or friends – so avoid the hall at the moment if you don’t want to take pictures.

Historialliset tanssit ovat harrastajatanssimestareiden vanhojen kirjallisten lähteiden pohjalta rekonstruoimia tansseja, joiden tanssiminen ei ole jatkunut nykypäipäivään. Tanssilähteitä on löytynyt ympäri Eurooppaa 1400-luvulta alkaen. Tansseja on hyvin erilaisia ja niistä on kerätty tietoa erilaisista lähteistä.
Seurassa tanssitaan esimerkiksi
– ns. varhaisia tansseja, jotka on koottu ennen vuotta 1450 lähinnä hyvin irtonaisista lähteistä ja esim. kuvista (esim. Estampiet, saltarellot, Trotto)
– varhaisitaliaisia bassadanza ja ballo -tansseja 1400-luvun puolesta välistä alkaen esim. Domenico da Piacenzan & oppilaidensa Guglielmo Ebreon ja Antonio Cornazanon käsikirjoituksissa (esim. Petit riens, Rostiboli gioioso, Anello, Amoroso)
– Gresleyn noin vuonna 1500 kirjoitettu muistikirjaan pohjaavia tansseja (esim. Grene gynger, Orynge), brandleja eli helppoja ketju- ja piiritansseja
– Thoinot Arbeaun tanssioppaasta vuodelta 1589 (esim. Branle des Lavandieres joka tunnetaan myös nimellä Washerwoman’s Branle eli pyykkärinbranle, Branle Cassandra, Branle Dance de la Haye eli Hay brandle, Branle Officiale tunnettu myös nimellä ladynheitto)
– Lontoon Inns of Court -lakikoulun tanssiaisista on säilynyt kuusi muistiinpanotyyppistä tanssiohjatta, noin vuosilta 1570-1675, helpoista parijonoissa tanssittavista aloitustansseista, Old Measures -tansseita, joista suurin osa on almaineja (esim. Queen’s almaine, Black Almaine, Tinternell)
– John Playfordin vuonna 1651 julkaiseman The English Dancing Master -tanssioppaan ja sen myöhempien painoisten “ECD”-tansseja (English Country Dances) (piiritansseja esim. Gathering Peascods, Jenny Pluck Pears, nelitansseja esim. Hyde Park, Newcastle, parijonotansseja esim. Confesse, Staines Morris, Upon a Summers Day), solatansseja esim. The Bath, Childgrove).

Historical dances are dances reconstructed by hobbyist dance masters based on old sources that describe dances which have Otherwise been lost to history. Dance sources have been found all over Europe dating from the 15th century onwards. There are very different kind of dances and information about them has been collected from different kind of sources. In SCA we dance, for example
– the so-called early dances, which were compiled before 1450 from rather scarce sources and e.g. from pictures (e.g. Estampiet, Saltarellos, Trotto)
– early Italian bassadanza and ballo dances starting from the middle of the 15th century e.g. the manuscripts of Domenico da Piacenza & his students Guglielmo Ebreo and Antonio Cornazano (e.g. Petit riens, Rostiboli gioioso, Anello, Amoroso)
– dances based on Gresley’s notebook written around 1500 (e.g. Grene gynger, Orynge)
– brandles, i.e. easy chain and circle dances, from Thoinot Arbeau’s dance manual from 1589 (e.g. Branle des Lavandieres also known as Washerwoman’s Branle, Branle Cassandra, Branle Dance de la Haye, Hay brandle, Branle Officiale also known as Toss the Lady)
– From the balls of the Inns of Court law school in London, six note-type dance instructions have been preserved, from around 1570-1675, from easy opening dances danced in pairs, Old Measures dances, most of which are almaines (e.g. Queen’s almaine, Black Almaine, Tinternell)
– “ECD” dances (English Country Dances) from John Playford’s 1651 dance guide The English Dancing Master and its later editions (circle dances e.g. Gathering Peascods, Jenny Pluck Pears, dances specifically for four couples e.g. Hyde Park, Newcastle, dances for a specific number of dancers in the set e.g. Confesse, Upon a Summers Day), and longways dances for as many couples as will e.g. Staines Morris, The Bath, Childgrove).

Jousiammuntaan saa osallistua kuka tahansa, kunhan noudattaa ammuntasääntöjä ja marskin ohjeita, sekä on sopivassa kunnossa. Alle 12-vuotiaalla on oltava huoltaja lähettyvillä ammunnan aikana. Kokeilun ja aloittelijaopetuksen lisäksi tapahtumissa voi olla myös erilaisia kilpailuja, joihin kaikkiin toki uudet voivat osallistua.
Jousiammunnassa käytetään mahdollisuuksien mukaan kokonaan puisia pitkäkaarijousia, vastaarijousia tai jalkajousia, mutta jousissa saa olla mukana nykyaikaisia materiaaleja kuten lasikuitulaminaattia. Nuolet puuta luonnonsulilla, mutta muoviset nokit ovat sallittuja.
Ammunassa on hyvä olla myös varusteita kuten nuoliviini, sormisuoja, rannesuoja ja ammuntahanska. Harrastuksemme aikakausi päättyy vuoteen 1600.
Ennen omien tarvikkaiden hankkimista kannattaa käydä kokeilemassa ammuntaa tapahtumissa, missä useimmiten on mahdollista kokeilla jousiampumista lainavarusteilla.

Anyone can participate in archery, as long as they follow the shooting rules and marshals instructions, and are in a suitable condition. Children under the age of 12 must have a guardian nearby during shooting. In addition to the experiment and beginner’s teaching, the events can also include various competitions, in which all newcomers can of course participate.
Archery, when possible, uses entirely wooden longbows, recurve bows or crossbows, but modern materials such as fiberglass laminate may be included in the bows. Arrows are wood with natural feathers, but plastic nocks are allowed.
When shooting, it is also good to have equipment such as arrow quill, finger guard, wrist guard and shooting glove. The era of our hobby ends in year 1600.
Before getting your own equipment, you should try shooting at events, where it is usually possible to try archery with borrowed equipment. In addition to experiments and beginner lessons, the events can also include various competitions.

Nordic 1000 koostuu sarjasta rottinkimiekkailuturnajaisia. Joka vuosi järjestetään kahdet turnajaiset Nordmarkissa ja kahdet Aarnimetsässä. Tarkoituksena on syventää ystävyyttä alueiden välillä kannustamalla taistelijoita matkustamaan maasta toiseen kohtaamaan toisiaan.
Turnaus taistellaan periaatteella voittaja jää kentälle. Taistelijat odottavat vuoroaan jonossa josta pääsevät kentälle kun sieltä vapautuu tilaa. Voittaja jää “karhukuoppaan” mahdollisten osumien aiheuttamien toimintarajoitusten kanssa ja häviäjä menee jonon loppuun. Jokaisesta voitost saa yhden pisteen. Turnajaiset päättyvät, kun joku taistelija saa 50 pistettä. Ensimmäinen taistelija, joka saavuttaa kokonaiskisassa 1000 pistettä, voittaa Nordic 1000:n.
Nyt on menossa Nordicinin toinen kierros, koska 1000 pisteen saavutti Sir Grimr Hvitulfsson Ulfhamr, monien vuosien taisteluiden jälkeen. Tällä hetkellä kisaa johtaa jaarli Harald Krake 855 voitolla.

Nordic 1000 consists of a series of rattan fencing tournaments. Every year, two tournaments are organized in Nordmark and two in Aarnimetsä. The purpose is to deepen friendship between regions by encouraging fighters to travel from one country to another to face each other.
The tournament is fought on the principle that the winner stays on the field. Fighters wait their turn in a line from which they can enter the field when space becomes available. The winner remains in the “bear pit” with restrictions on activities caused by possible hits, and the loser goes to the end of the queue. You get one point for each win. The tournament ends when a fighter gets 50 points. The first fighter to reach 1000 points in the overall competition wins the Nordic 1000.
Now it’s the second round of Nordicin, because 1000 points was reached by Sir Grimr Hvitulfsson Ulfhamr, after many years of fighting. Earl Harald Krake is currently leading the race with 855 wins.

Hovi on tapahtumien ”teatterimaisin” ohjelma. Edessä valtaistuimilla edustavat paikalla olevat hallitsijat (esimerkiksi Aarnimetsän [Suomen alueen] paronilliset ja /tai Drachenwaldin [Euroopan ym] kuninkaalliset, joskus myös vaikkapa Nordmarkin [Ruotsin alue] ruhtinas/tar ja muita vierailevia hallitsijoita) jotka airueensa välityksellä kutsuvat eteensä haluamiaan henkilöitä. Eteen mennessä voi niiailla/kumarrella ja valtaistuinväen edessä olevalle tyynylle polvistua, mutta voi myös vain kävellä ja tarvittaessa jäädä seisomaan tai vaikka saada tuolin. Myös saattaja on mahdollista ottaa mukaan jos yksin eteenmeno jännittää kovasti.
Eteen kutsutaan usein ensimmäistä kertaa tapahtumissa olevat (kaikki kerralla) ja heille annetaan pienet lahjukset. Siellä voidaan vaikka vannoa uskollisuutta tai virkavaloja. Aarnimetsän tapahtumissa jaetaan usein virvaliekkejä (paronillisten antama tunnustus) ja aateliskirjoja (kuninkaallisten myöntämä) sekä tietenkin kaikkia muita mahdollisia ansiosioita mitä seurassa on. Arvoasiat ansaitaan tekemällä hyvää työtä seurassa ja niiden saaminen vaatii muiden suosittelua ko henkilöstä kruunuväelle – muista siis kertoa kaikista hyvistä tyypeistä eteenpäin!
Näiden lisäksi hovissa voi tapahtuma myös paljon muuta kuten vaikkapa killan vanhimman vaihtumista, tapahtumassa olleiden kilpailujen voittajien julkistamista ja palkitsemista ja muuta asiaa mitä hallitsijat haluavat hovissa hoitaa. Hovissa airut /airuet kertoo koko ajan mitä tapahtuu ja mm. taputusten sijaan huudattaa vivat tai vivant (riippuen onko yksi vai useampi henkilö kelle hurrataan) aina tarvittaessa.
Usein kruunupäät saapuvat ja poistuvat kulkueena airueen/airueiden huudellessa ja kohteliasta on seistä osoittaa kunnioitusta kunnes ovat paikallaan tai poistuneet (ja huudella poistuessa kaikuna kauan eläköön -huutoja). Hovia saa jännittää mutta pelätä ei tarvitse. Tarkoitus on, että hovi olisi mukava ja hieno kohokohta tapahtumassa.
The Court is the most “theatrical” program of the events. In front at the thrones are the present rulers (for example the baronials of Aarnimetsä [region of Finland] and/or the royals of Drachenwald [Europe, etc.], sometimes also, for example, ruler of Nordmark [region of Sweden] and other visiting rulers) who, through their heralds, call forward the persons they want. When you get to the front, you can kneel/bow and kneel on the cushion in front of the throne, but you can also just walk and if necessary stay standing or even get a chair. It is also possible to take an escort with you if you are too nervous to go alone.
Those attending events for the first time are often invited to the front (all at once) and given small tokens. As other things, there, for example, you can swear loyalty or oaths of office. At the events of Aarnimetsä, marshlights are often handed out (recognition given by barons) and titles of nobility (given by royalty) and, of course, all other possible merits that we have at the SCA. Things are earned by doing good work in the hobbysociety, and getting them requires recommending the person to the ruling people – so remember to pass on all info of the good guys!
In addition to these, many other events can also take place at the court, such as the changing of the leader of the guild, the announcement and awarding of the winners of the competitions at the event, and other matters that the rulers want to take care of at the court. At the Court heralds will tells you all the time what is happening and e.g. instead of clapping, shout vivat or vivant (depending on whether one or more people are cheering) whenever necessary.
Often the crown heads arrive and leave in a procession while the heralds are shouting about their ariving and it is polite to stand to show respect until they are in place or have left (and shout long live shouts etc in echo when leaving). The court can be excited, but there is no need to be afraid. The purpose is that the court would be a nice and great highlight of the event.
